whats your Choice ? and Reason it.

The other day one of my friends asked me situational question and it was really difficult to answer but then I made my choice. Before I let you know my choice I want your stand so here is the situation

Assume you are Train driver and suddenly you saw group of children playing on the track while one child is playing on unused old track. Yes just like you I said I will stop it immediately but there is no time to slow it as it’s nearly impossible but then you have a chance to switch over the tracks. What would be your choice 1) continue on the same track where group of children playing or 2) use the unused old track where only one child is playing.

Give you choice and also reason it?

I will continue to drive on the same track where the group of children are playing...

Reason 1 - If I shift to unused track, then the train will get derailed and the passengers traveling in the train will die... So, I will opt to continue on the same track, which will overrun the group of childs(but the damage is small)

Reason 2 - If you compare the attitude of group of childs and the other child(playing on unused track), you can understand the group of childs are reckless(they know that the track is in use) and other child has chosen the right track to play... So, among the group and the other child, you should save the right one, so I am ready to overrun the bunch of reckless kids...

Life is full of choices and I believe all the choices we make are always right as no one ever makes a wrong choice. The outcome on the other hand could be what we desired or vice versa.

Having said this for the given situation my choice and reason will be as follows:
Assuming I am the driver of the same train that is running on the tracks that the kids are playing on J
Choice: I will continue on the same track and honk the horn to make the kids aware of the incoming train, push the brakes as hard as safely possible and hopefully they should clear the tracks.
Reason: moving on the unused track and even honking the horn might save the kid but u never know wt it might do to the train and the passengers sitting in it thus taking a calculated risk I will stay on track honk the horn try my best to stop the train but not change tracks.

Again, a more experienced driver might know the harm unused tracks can do but as per my knowledge this is wt I will do

Well Ravi and Kareema you both are right and reasoned it very well. No Doubt I see a great thinking in to it

Kareema wants to try hard to save everybody by honking and breaking the wheel carefully. Which offcourse is great thought but I don't know with short reaction time how good any human can show his emotional control or execute in the right way under true emotional trauma he should be undergoing. Not all the experienced people will have high emotional control and its importance now a days is slowly being realized, may be thats the reason why now a days Company's or Industries are prefering high emotional quotient then Intelligence Quotient. Well a person with good emotional control could really try his best and execute his decision in right way.

Ravi also gave a second reason which makes it quite sensible. Just because they are more children one should not favor them. Yes the normal tendency would be to save them because they are more in number, although they are not in the right Track. Well I see we did not use old track beacuse the more passengers can be affected what if the train is empty then you have to make a decision between used and unused tracks. Would you still go with the same reason? or you want to change the tracks to save more children? what would be your choice?

Nice imagination. Please don't try to thing too much as train driver.
Driver only knows Red and green flags if no red flag he will stop . Here that one is not possible so will continue regular track he doesn't bother about who is on the track
If President on the track also same
Go and sleep happy my friend

Yeah my friend sure but we can not leave with out thinking. If Newton never gave a thought why Apple fell down we wouldn't have had Newtons laws and some great discoveries. I am happy to give Newton example today as it is his Birthday.

Anyways back to where we stopped what if the train is empty and then you have to make a decision between used and unused tracks. Would you still go with the same reason? or you want to change the tracks to save more children? what would be your choice?

Hai Star... Your Newton example is really cooool man...

Coming to the answer for your revised version of this question, its pretty simple(than the first one). I will decide to shift to unused track.

This new answer is completely different to my earlier one, but as the situation is different, my way(track) also changed... :-)

Thanks Ravi........

Remember my question, it is just same as earlier except the train is empty but still kids playing on track does not change. So did you mean you will go over unused track and save more kids instead of one kid?

Even if they are no kids on track still you will be in danger? so you don't mind putting yourself in risk. Is that right?

No way, I will put my life in risk. I'll just jump out of train after shifting it to unused track...
